At Wilton's General Store is the first play in a series of fictional plays loosely based on historical family events, written by Meldy Wilton, Granddaughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wilton, set in and around, historical Wilton's General Store on Haliburton Street in Nanaimo BC Canada. The play covers a variety of exciting happenings around town and the world in the 1940's. A time before cell phones, and computers, before TV and CD players; a time when the world was going to war and North America was trying to recover from the big stock market crash and depression. A time when everyone clung to the hope that life would be better and our young people were the key to recovering our hearts, souls and finances. This play set in the 1940's, includes a variety of gossip and tales; anything from the latest scuttle butt, who's doing what (to whom and where), from the scandalous, the newly married, the newly buried, to political strife and social tolerance. When a General Store was the gathering place for more than just supplies, a little bit of gossip, a little bit of news, and a whole lot of exciting planning and scheming - all in a days trip to the General Store. You never knew what would happen At Wilton's General Store. | read more
