My Background
I work at EmpowHer, a women's health web site dedicated to providing the best in health information and resources to women around the world. I joined EmpowHer after several years of working as a freelance print reporter for The Arizona Republic, one of the largest metropolitan daily newspapers in the US. Previous to my work with The Arizona Republic, I hosted a political talk show for cable television for a couple of years and worked for several corporations in high-profile strategic positions.
My Story
Nearly three years ago, I wrote a cover story for The Arizona Republic newspaper about Michelle King Robson and her desire to improve women's access to health care. It was an amazing experience to meet her, and I was so impressed with her dedication and plans to create a place online for women to go to find the best health information and resources. Her web site, www.EmpowHer.com, resulted from her own experience of suffering a debilitating health situation following a complete hysterectomy. (Michelle is also a member of Connected Women and can be found here: http://www.connected-women.com/en/directory/view/michelle) Her health story especially resonated with me, as I had suffered from postpartum depression for several months before I finally received the diagnosis and treatment I needed to recover. I knew what it was like to feel alone in an illness and completely without hope. Michelle's vision and mission to give every woman a voice was so compelling that before I knew it, I was working with her to help bring her vision to life. Our EmpowHer Community is quite unique in that women can come together to share their health experiences, ask health questions and connect with like-minded women and top medical experts in the US.
